Despite what it might seem like, given the images often associated with it, yoga is not just an activity for the flexible. (Trust me. Inflexible yogi here!)
Instead, it's a practice that invites us to dig deep within ourselves to discover who we truly are, while at the same time offering a vast catalogue of yoga postures that get us moving and feeling in our bodies.
Embodiment on the other hand is a word that can be used to describe the quality of one's own presence. (i.e. A person can be very serious, silly, etc.)
However, there is also a practice of embodiment. This practice recognizes that everything we experience in the body contributes to who we are, and therefore invites us to be more conscious about how we are living in our bodies.
I believe that yoga and embodiment compliment each other well, and my approach can be seen as a blend of both practices.
When you work with me, I invite you to move for movement's sake. It's not about intensity or flexibility, but the overall well-being of both your mental and physical state. I typically guide flow-like sequences that include yoga postures as well as moves from complimentary movement modalities. Making sure that embodiment practices are sprinkled throughout, such as centering, to help you feel a little more relaxed and anchored in your body. Or meditation, so you can feel more present. And very important, I encourage you to have fun, to be curious, and to be confident about moving!
The overall experience being an integration of movement and consciousness that will help you get out of the daily rut, develop a greater sense of presence or ease, and cultivate improved self-awareness.
what others have shared about my classes
"I so enjoyed your class yesterday. I didn't want it to end." - Linda H.
"With your classes, it's about the experience for me - knowing that I will feel more calm afterwards. It's super difficult for me to shut my mind off, but the way you tie in philosophy to each of your classes gives me something to meditate on, so I can just listen and breathe. It's also because your voice speaks calm, but also strength. And so it's like being in the hands of a trusted guru." - Carmynn C.
"One of my fave classes of the week.
...I love your classes so much, because we're always trying new things!" - Shelby A.
